High School Students Make a Difference on Denim Day

PHOTO CAPTION: Jeans signed by students of Union Mine High School for Denim Day.

On Wednesday, May 4, 2011 the My Strength Club and Her Strength Club at Union Mine High School put on Denim Day. Nationally it was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Denim day is a rape prevention campaign where members of the community can take a stand against misconceptions that surround sexual assault.

My Strength and Her Strength students at Union Mine set up tables with literature on sexual assualt prevention and had many activities to draw crowds like face painting, a hacky sack toss and nerf bowling. Two students played music to make the mood more festive.

There were rows of jeans hanging on rails across the main area near the cafeteria for students to sign and write a personal message. Students also had a chance to sign a pledge.

I was so proud of these students. It was great to see them unite and work together for a great cause. To read the full story and find out about Denim Day click here.
