Hands 4 Hope Teens Donate Party Boxes to Families for Kid's Birthdays

Jena and Grace Brasil deliver party boxes to White Rock.
Jena and Grace Brasil volunteer with Hands 4 Hope, a nonprofit in El Dorado County, and celebrate children’s birthdays every month at White Rock Village, an affordable housing apartment complex.

When the shelter in place was issued in California, the program was cancelled but they wanted to continue to offer something for the kids and came up with the idea of donating party boxes for families to be able to celebrate their kid’s birthdays.

The boxes, provided by Team Celebrate, contain everything a family needs to celebrate their child's birthday at home. There is a present for the birthday boy or girl, plates, napkins, forks, cake mix, frosting and more.

"We really wanted kids to be able to celebrate and feel special during this time," Eddie Zacapa , Resident Services Coordinator at White Rock Village said. "Parents may be having a hard time getting party supplies and kids may feel bummed that they can't have friends and family over to have a big party."

White Rock Village, a property of Mercy Housing in El Dorado Hills, provides affordable housing to create stable and healthy communities by developing, financing and operating affordable, program-enriched housing for families, seniors and people with special needs who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe housing opportunities.

“This was definitely a lighthouse in the fog and clam in the storm,” Eugene Duka, a parent who picked up a party box for his son, said.

Jena and Grace plan to continue preparing boxes for families throughout this COVID-19 pandemic with Hands 4 Hope and look forward to bringing more smiles to kid’s faces. Hands 4 Hope is a nonprofit organization that encourages youth to volunteer and give back to their community in El Dorado County and Sacramento area.
